Everything I Am, Live: Telling My Own Origin Story Into a Microphone

The Life of a Modern Renaissance Man: A Video Journal, entry 36

Some stories keep finding their way back to you. Everything I Am is one of mine.

I performed this spoken-word piece at an open mic in South Florida, and hearing it out loud again reminded me why I wrote it. It begins with the childhood version of me who could already imagine a future built around creativity, then traces the people, friendships, convictions, and hard lessons that helped me move toward that vision.

There's something vulnerable about standing in front of an audience and declaring what you believe you're here to do. You can hide a little behind a character in a film. A poem like this is much closer to showing somebody the blueprint inside your head.

I talk about seeing a bigger plan, about the friends who helped shape me, and about how the many disciplines in my life became part of one identity. I've learned that being a Renaissance man isn't necessarily about doing everything. It's about understanding the thread that connects the things you genuinely care about.

Performing the poem live gives it a different pulse than the animated version. I can feel the room, listen to the silence, and share the conviction directly with people sitting a few feet away.

I'm still becoming the person that kid imagined. I like that the poem hasn't finished telling its story.
