The Life of a Modern Renaissance Man: A Video Journal, entry 9
The plan was simple: Gabrielle was teaching a vegan cooking class, and I was going to help make sure everything went smoothly.
We were out in Prosper, Texas, and some ingredients were missing. So I volunteered to make a quick trip to Sprouts for oyster mushrooms. Husband of the year material. I even entertained myself on the drive by making up songs, because apparently an ordinary grocery run isn't enough. Every errand in our household had the potential to become a musical.
I got the mushrooms. Mission accomplished.
Then my car refused to start.
There is something humbling about trying to rescue the day and becoming the day's newest logistical problem. I went from helpful husband to stranded mushroom courier in record time. It was hot, the cooking class was happening, and I had to remind myself to stay positive while somebody came to pick me up.
Eventually, we got back to the good stuff: teaching, cooking, and watching people learn how to make vegan fried chicken. The whole day was messy and funny, and in the end, it became a better story than an uneventful errand would have been.
I love that this video preserves ordinary life instead of just the highlight reel. Sometimes love looks like getting groceries. Sometimes it looks like coming to rescue the person who went to get them.
