King Dyslexic: What If the Thing That Makes You Different Is Your Strength?

The Life of a Modern Renaissance Man: A Video Journal, entry 29

School has a remarkable talent for convincing people that intelligence comes in one convenient shape. Sit still, follow the instructions, process everything the expected way, and try not to make anybody's lesson plan more complicated.

I've never been especially interested in living inside that narrow definition of ability. King Dyslexic plays with what happens when a mind that learns or thinks differently decides to claim its own power.

The music video takes that premise into a stylized classroom world, full of movement, irreverence, and provocation. It's intentionally loud. I wanted the energy to match the audacity of turning a label that can feel limiting into something worth celebrating.

What resonates with me most is the broader creative principle: our unusual combinations of interests and ways of thinking can become assets. I have spent my life crossing between performance, design, writing, music, photography, and filmmaking. Sometimes that makes the world ask me to choose a lane. I keep wondering why the road has to be so narrow.

Learning differences are real, and the support people need matters. The song's spirit, though, is about refusing to let a label define the limits of a life.

If you've ever been told you're doing something the wrong way simply because your brain works differently, I hope this one gives you a little swagger back.
