I Fell in Love, Did Stand-Up, and Found My People in St. Pete | TRAUMEDY
St. Petersburg, Florida, you have officially stolen a piece of my heart. And apparently, so has a certain comedian named Angela Hutchinson.

St. Petersburg, Florida, you have officially stolen a piece of my heart.
And apparently, so has a certain comedian named Angela Hutchinson. ❤️
I recently had the incredible opportunity to perform at TRAUMEDY, a trauma-informed comedy experience produced by my ridiculously talented girlfriend, Angela. And let me tell you, between the laughter, the love, the incredible people, and the beautifully weird energy of St. Pete, this was one for the books.
St. Pete, You're My Kind of Weird
First off, can we talk about St. Petersburg?
I LOVE this city.
It's artsy, vibrant, spiritual, eclectic, a little hippie, and full of people who genuinely seem to enjoy being themselves. Murals everywhere, creative entrepreneurs, musicians, vegans, and enough yoga instructors to collectively levitate the entire city.
It honestly reminds me of home in West Palm Beach.
Except West Palm is St. Pete's bougier cousin who wears designer sunglasses to brunch and insists on valet parking.
St. Pete feels like that cousin who quit corporate America, bought a bicycle, started making kombucha, and somehow seems significantly happier.
I respect it.
Being surrounded by so much creativity and community reminded me why I love discovering new places and connecting with people through art.
TRAUMEDY: When Healing Gets Hilarious
Now, let's talk about the reason I came out here.
TRAUMEDY is conscious comedy with a purpose. It's about taking the messy, painful, uncomfortable parts of the human experience and finding the humor that helps us process, connect, and heal.
Because sometimes life hands you lemons, and sometimes life throws those lemons directly at your childhood trauma.
Might as well make some lemonade. Preferably with a joke and a microphone.
As an actor, poet, storyteller, and comedian, I've always believed that art has the power to transform the way we experience life. Comedy is especially powerful because laughter can help us approach subjects we might otherwise avoid.
During my set, I got to explore relationships, emotional abuse, veganism, personal growth, and the general absurdity of being human.
Some jokes were silly. Some were dark. Some came from very real experiences.
And I loved every minute of it.

Here's my performance from the show. Fair warning: we get a little inappropriate, a little vulnerable, and a whole lot ridiculous.
Performing With My Girlfriend Was Something Special
One of the highlights of this whole experience was getting to share the stage with Angela.
And I have to give her credit. She's an incredible producer.
In fact, she's so good at what she does that she booked me for this show BEFORE we started dating, and somehow, before we could finish negotiating my performance rate, she stole my heart.
Now I'm driving across Florida, performing, buying dinner, and calling it a romantic getaway.
That woman is a BUSINESS GENIUS.
All jokes aside, I'm genuinely proud of her.
Angela is a brilliant comedian, a passionate creative, and someone who has taken her own experiences with life's challenges and transformed them into something that helps other people feel seen, understood, and empowered.
Watching her perform and witnessing the community she's building through Conscious Comedy makes me love and admire her even more.
There's something incredibly special about being in a relationship with someone who shares your passion for creativity, personal growth, storytelling, and making a positive impact on the world.
We get to laugh together, create together, challenge each other, and occasionally turn our relationship into stand-up material.
Which is wonderful.
And probably terrible for our privacy.
I love you, babe. Keep doing what you're doing. The world needs more of it.
Why I Love Stand-Up Comedy
I've spent over two decades performing, from theater stages to film sets, poetry performances, music, and everything in between.
But there's something uniquely exhilarating about stand-up.
Just you, a microphone, your perspective, and a room full of people who have absolutely no obligation to think you're funny.
It's terrifying.
I LOVE IT.
There's no second take. No editing your way out of a bad joke. Just authentic human connection happening in real time.
And when people laugh at something you once struggled to even talk about, that's a beautiful kind of transformation.
That's why I believe in what Angela is creating with TRAUMEDY and Conscious Comedy. Humor gives us another way to explore difficult experiences, connect through our shared humanity, and maybe leave feeling a little lighter than when we arrived.
More Laughs, More Love, More Life
To Angela, the comedians, everyone who came out to TRAUMEDY, and the beautiful people of St. Pete, thank you for such a memorable experience.
This reminded me how much I love live performance, how much I love stand-up comedy, and how grateful I am to share these experiences with someone I love.
I'm excited to keep exploring comedy, telling stories, pushing creative boundaries, and finding more reasons to laugh at this ridiculous adventure called life.
St. Pete, I'll definitely be back.
And Angela, keep shining, baby. I'm proud of you.
Much love,
