Dissecting Religion: What If Sacred Stories Are Trying to Teach Us How to Live?

The Life of a Modern Renaissance Man: A Video Journal, entry 6

I have never been good at hearing "because that's what you're supposed to believe" and leaving the conversation there. I'm the person who asks why, then asks why again, then accidentally turns dinner into a three-hour philosophy seminar. My friends are very fortunate.

In this first Dissecting Religion episode, I began laying out an idea that had been occupying my mind: biblical stories can have profound meaning when we approach them psychologically, symbolically, and personally. I was interested in the truths a story can carry, even when people disagree about what happened literally.

I talked about the Bible as something like an instruction manual, a collection of stories that can help us reflect on consciousness, suffering, responsibility, and how to live. These were my interpretations and questions, not a claim that I'd solved thousands of years of theology in one YouTube upload.

What matters to me about this video is the willingness to explore. Religion, philosophy, art, and psychology have always overlapped in my creative life. I want to understand how we build meaning, how beliefs shape behavior, and why some stories stay with humanity for generations.

I called the series Dissecting Religion because I wanted to examine the ideas with curiosity. If I end up examining my own assumptions in the process, even better.
