The Life of a Modern Renaissance Man: A Video Journal, entry 25

Valentine's Day is a beautiful holiday, especially if everyone involved is emotionally available. Naturally, I made a music video about what happens when that last detail becomes complicated.

Felicia (Role Play) follows a date where the guy is trying to enjoy the person in front of him while still carrying feelings about someone from his past. It plays with romance, fantasy, awkward honesty, and the stories we tell ourselves about being ready to move on.

I love relationship storytelling because our emotional lives are endlessly entertaining. People can be sincere and ridiculous in the same breath. You can truly want connection while also dragging an entire imaginary conversation with your ex into the room. It's crowded in there.

Filming and directing music videos gives me the chance to take a song's premise and exaggerate it into a little movie. I get to think like a rapper, writer, actor, and filmmaker at once. That combination makes me happy, even when the fictional couple probably needs a therapist.

This song reminds me that honesty is easier to celebrate as a concept than to practice on an actual date. It's worth doing anyway. Nobody deserves to be cast in the supporting role of somebody else's unresolved romance.
